The Tamil Nadu House is seeing some heated discussions—not over water, but actress Shriya Saran's wardrobe.
The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), for instance, thinks she reveals too much.
From the New Indian Express: [Link]
It all started with PMK whip T Velmurugan calling for censorship on the small screen arguing that Namitha turned up in revealing attires as the judge of a dance show telecast on a private satellite television channel.
Likewise, Shreya, the heroine of the runaway hit Sivaji - The Boss starring Rajnikanth, had “dressed objectionably” at the movie's silver jubilee function held recently in Chennai. The silver jubilee celebrations were telecast in television channels. The actor had later apologised for the skimpy outfit after a Hindu organisation threatened legal action.
Some humour too:
Velmurugan's concern evoked a comic reaction from the Public Works Minister Durai Murugan. The Minister argued that it will be difficult to prescribe a yardstick for judging what constituted obscenity.
“We cannot tell heroines how many inches they should reveal above their hip or the (decent) size of skirt and bra,” he quipped while pointing out that even in a film in which the PMK whip had acted in a small role there was an item number.
Sify.com had this to report:
Shriya has tendered an unconditional apology for "wearing inappropriate skimpy attire" at the silver jubilee celebration of Sivaji, where Tamilnadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi was the chief guest. The Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) had lodged a complaint against the actress and sought police intervention to take legal action.
The Tamilnadu police have made it clear that anybody can wear anything as long as it looks decent, and they had no plans to file any complaint against the actress. A top cop has said that it is not their job to be the "moral police of the state". The HMK basically a letter head organization in the state got some free publicity.
