You can't beat this.

The nuisance detection squad (NTS) of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on January 23 swooped down on 12 young couples sitting in a position which the squad found "objectionable" and slapped a fine of Rs 6,000 on them.

This is the first time that the NTS has actually levied penalties, though it claims to have carried out such exercise in the past also. Ward officer Madhav Jagtap said that the action is, however, in no way an isolated one, and similar drive will be undertaken throughout the city in future.

“We confirmed their identity, got their mobile numbers and even summoned their parents to our office. Some of the parents were in tears to know the kind of company their children were moving around with and thanked us,” Jagtap said.

While PMC officials said they would be keen to alert parents whenever they come across such cases, their primary concern was to ensure that people maintain decency at public places.

“Teenagers account for the biggest chunk of visitors to gardens and places like Shaniwarwada and we, in our role as municipal corporation of the city, would like to protect them from indecent behaviour in public,” Jagtap said.

Yup. It's their moral responsibility to take care of the citizens of tomorrow. After all, parents these days are pretty useless, aren't they?
